Kaws, the graffiti/street art legend who has worked with Nike, Arkitip, Murakami, and others has a show running at the Gering and Lopez Gallery from November 6th to December 23rd, 2008.

Earlier this year a friend turned us onto Dan Flavin and his incredible light installations. We’re reminded of Flavin when we look at the work of Carol Salmanson. Carol’s Diaphany light/color installation goes up at Mixed Greens and runs from November 13th and runs until December 22, 2008.

We love, love, love this party where the drinks are cheap, the music is great and we get to hang out with all of our techno pals in a very non-techno setting. We might as well come to terms with it now. Halloween falling on a Friday means tonight (whenever that ends) is destined to be a hot mess. We’re planning to kick our night off at our home away from home, The Bunker, for Dan Bell and Eric Cloutier.

With Dan wrecking The Bunker until 6AM, Circoloco/Resolute just down the street at Supreme Trading and Wolf + Lamb’s Halloween party at The Marcy Hotel, rest assured that you’ll be seeing the sunrise (and beyond) with no sleep at all.

If you are looking for another non-Manhattan option for Halloween there’s the Matt & Kim party at the Danbro Brewery Warehouse, the newest DIY venue in Bushwick. Opening sets by Fiasco and Ponytail will make it well worth the trip. Ponytail was one of my favorite showcases of CMJ, their music seems like it should be terrible yet it turns out to be a blast in a live setting.

Free Williamsburg has some photos from the inaugural show at the warehouse. Looks awesome but wear some crappy sneakers.

The venue rumors about the Circoloco Resolute party (more info) have come to an end. Fuck DUMBO, Jamaica, and Manhattan, the party is going down on 213 North 8th Street in Williamsburg! There are still presale tickets available Thursday at Etherea, Halcyon, and Kush Lounge.

There are three spectacular, dirty ass underground electronic events going on within a one mile radius of the Bedford L this Friday. We can only imagine the beautiful mess Halloween is going to bring the Williamsburg area.

School of Seven Bells

My hands-down favorite from CMJ. I’ve been listening to a handful of their beautiful, hazy songs for the past couple of weeks and had the chance to see them at the Ghostly showcase last Saturday night and they didn’t disappoint. Check out their Ghostly page for sample tracks and more info - highly recommended.

I’m sure I’d bash my head every 10 seconds in this thing, but it’s awesome nonetheless. This also reminds of a much more extreme version of the beautiful interior of Oulu in Williamsburg. [via Cool Hunting]

Love Letters From Oslo

This Oslo sub-label was responsible for one of the most recognizable house anthems heard across NYC this summer on immobile boats in Newton Creek, on the shore of the Gowanus Canal and in lofts, bedrooms, and headphones long after we all should have been asleep. I’m talking, of course, about Laverne Radix - Dick Control. Currently on their 4th release, Love Letters From Oslo has yet to disappoint.

In a very rare moment we’re hanging up our dancing shoes and ear plugs for one weekend and focusing on something that has nothing to do with music.
Black Label will be presenting the 666th Bike Kill in Bedstuy, Brooklyn this Saturday.

Bike Kill is one of the greatest, craziest NYC events. Jeff Stark of www.nonsensenyc.com/ notes that Black Label’s “Bike Kill” is, “The hardest, purest event all year. And you know, while it’s not a good reason to go to an event just because when you look back at the pictures 20 years from now you’re going to say, “Jesus, that shit was so fucking cool,” it’s something. Two years ago the Bike Kill ended with a jet bike. Last year Black Label turned over a car and beat the shit out of it with skateboards and BMX bikes in some sort of Lord of the Flies reverie. Yeah, going to Bike Kill is like walking on the set of some movie you’ve never seen, except get the fuck out of the way because there’s a bike flying right for your head and someone just hit you with a loaf of bread. We’ve always understood the event as not just a celebration of bikes, but a celebration of doing something all on your own, about taking what you care about and sharing it with whoever happens to come on by. And then someone will vomit on the street and we’ll remember that we were getting a little full of ourselves. Still. The most important thing to remember: Hop on and hold tight. [Mark Ronson - Ooh Wee ft. Ghostface, Trife, and Nate Dogg’]

CMJ is kicking off at the end of the month. One of the more interesting parties we’ve seen is the Allido Records Party on Tuesday, October 21st featuring Mark Ronson (DJ) , Wale, Daniel Merriweather, Rhymefest, The Rumblestrips, and special guests. The venue is SOBs on Varick and Houston.

This party was ridiculous. Fire breathers, little people, a drum corps, acrobats, Gossip Girls, free booze, free food and a crazy lineup of performers all the way through. Oh and a pregnant M.I.A. It wasn’t without a few flaws (heard they reached capacity at 10:30, not enough bartenders) but if you picked up free tickets and showed up early this was one of the best parties of the year. A bazillion dollars well spent. Thank you, Diesel.

Citay: Eye on the Dollar

Citay is one of my favorite finds of year, their music sounds like Ratatat if Ratatat lived in the woods instead of Brooklyn. A collaboration with Ezra Feinberg of Piano Magic and Fucking Champs guitarist Tim Green, their music would probably be best suited for a night at The Yard around a bonfire. You can catch Citay at Cake Shop this Friday bonfire-free (it will still be awesome), they will also be making an encore appearance on 10/18 at Southpaw with locals Love as Laughter (tickets).

Our friends at Brooklyn Based and Meanred have put together a pig roast this Friday at The Yard…

Nothing says harvest like a pig roast, especially when the pig is a 200-lb Berkshire hog…roasted whole over an open barbecue pit by Tom Mylan, Brooklyn’s favorite butcher. Hosted by Brooklyn Based, Sweet Deliverance, Ear Farm and MeanRed, the first annual Big Brooklyn Pig Roast and Harvest Hoedown is a prelude to the following day’s Gowanus Harvest Festival (tickets), and a benefit for The New Farmer Development Project.

The Circoloco 10 Year Anniversary compilation

There are a lot of things to hate about dance compilations, mix cds, and Ibiza’s image of excess and cheese but the 6 disc compilation Circo Loco put out for its 10 year anniversary is absolutely amazing. Resident Advisor puts it best, “These are the mixes that turn the idea of Ibiza as a cheesy house paradise on its head.”
